About Senior Wish Makers

A Mission Rooted in Compassion

At Senior Wish Makers, we believe that every senior deserves to be seen, valued, and celebrated. Too often, the wishes of seniors go unheard, overshadowed by financial hardship, mobility challenges, or a lack of support. Our mission is to change that—one wish at a time.

We provide meaningful experiences and fulfill dreams for Oregon’s low-income seniors, whether it’s a long-overdue family reunion, a chance to learn something new, or the simple gift of comfort and connection.

Turning Dreams into Reality for Our Wisest Hearts.

Karen Ahner

The Heart Behind Our Work:

Karen’s Story

Senior Wish Makers was founded by Karen Ahner, a healthcare professional with over 25 years of experience caring for others. From early on, Karen watched her parents devote themselves to helping people in need, and that example shaped the way she lived and worked.

In her younger years, Karen worked in nursing homes and retirement communities, where she cared for seniors and built meaningful relationships with them. Their stories, wisdom, and quiet hopes stayed with her. She began to notice something that came up again and again: many seniors had simple but meaningful wishes but too often those wishes went unfulfilled. Not because they were unrealistic, but because many seniors lacked the support or resources to make them happen.

Karen’s own life also taught her resilience. As a single mother raising two daughters, she faced challenges of her own, and with the support of friends and family, she made it through. That chapter strengthened her belief in kindness, community, and showing up for others.

Over time, Karen felt a clear calling to do more. With a deep sense of purpose, she founded Senior Wish Makers to bring joy, dignity, and meaningful experiences to Oregon’s low-income seniors and veterans. From heartfelt reunions to life-enhancing gifts and unforgettable moments, the goal is simple: to make sure seniors in our communities feel seen, valued, and celebrated.

Why We Do What We Do

A lifetime of hard work and giving to others should be met with respect, appreciation, and joy. Unfortunately, many seniors face isolation, financial struggles, and physical limitations that make even the simplest of wishes feel out of reach.

That’s where Senior Wish Makers comes in. Through the generosity of donors, volunteers, and community partners, we turn wishes into reality for low income seniors and veterans across Oregon.

We Believe

Dignity in Action

Every wish granted is a testament to the value of an elder’s life.

Generational Connection

Bringing people together enriches both seniors and their communities.

Small Moments, Big Impact

Even the simplest wish can transform a life.

Hope Made Real

Wish fulfillment restores hope and possibility.

Since our founding, we’ve seen firsthand how granting a wish isn’t just about the experience itself—it’s about reminding seniors that they matter.

And with your support, we can continue making dreams come true.
